Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly while taking strong notice of different severe irregularities in Mardan Development Authority (MDA) has directed the recovery of millions of rupees from the responsible officials. The meeting was held here with Chairman, Speaker KP Assembly, Asad Qaiser in the chair while members included Shaukat Ali Yousafzai, Syed Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha and Qurban Ali also attended.
The meeting took several crucial decisions in light of different audit objections regarding Mardan Development Authority relating to financial year 2010-11. The committee while expressing strong anguish over the matter of the allotment of the precious plots worth millions of rupees to different educational institutions during financial year 2009-10 and for conducting detail probe referred the matter to a sub-committee comprising MPAs Shaukat Ali Yousafzai and Syed Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha and directed it for the presentation of report within one month.
PAC also expressed strong reaction to irregularities to the tone of Rs 2.8 million and constituted a sub-committee comprising Qurban Ali, Shaukat Ali Yousafzai and Syed Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha. The chairman directed the committee for the inspection of the site to prepare a comprehensive report and present it before the committee. The committee reiterated its resolve of the abolition of irregularities in the public sector institutes.
PAC also took strong notice of the cutting of large number of trees and timber theft during the year 2009-10 and ordered the recovery of Rs 0.5 million from the responsible officials. In this regard the committee adopted the stance that the concerned departments are not taking problems seriously and department has committed negligence in this regard.
Earlier, while addressing the meeting, Speaker Asad Qaiser clarified that besides guaranteeing the judicious utilisation of the public exchequer the committee would look into the expenditure of each and every penny. He said that the nation has expressed confidence in the public representatives and members of the committee will not hurt them. He pledged that PAC will guarantee the protection of public exchequer.
