Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid on Tuesday said the government will not bring any changes in terms of reference (ToRs) of the proposed judicial commission to investigate the off-shore accounts of Pakistani politicians and businesspeople. Talking to reporters after the meeting of a sub-committee of the parliamentary committee on electoral reforms, Zahid Hamid lashed out at the opposition political parties for rejecting the ToRs, which he said were framed in a 'positive manner'.
"Opposition parties have no real agenda for constructive opposition that is why they've opted for politics of criticism," the minister said, adding the ToRs were final and would not be changed. He said that under the ToRs, the proposed judicial commission has been empowered to hire services of all the investigation agencies.
Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Anosha Rehman, while speaking on the occasion, maintained that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan could only be convinced after he is allowed to become the prime minister. The committee, which met for an in-camera session under Zahid Hamid in the chair, sought input from the opposition political parties on procedure about appointment of the new members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), as the current members of the ECP are going to complete their terms by June 10, 2016. The committee would further deliberate upon the procedure of appointment of the ECP members.
