This is apropos Business Recorder editorial "ToRs are not sacred" carried by the newspaper yesterday. The newspaper has concluded: "neither the government's ToRs nor the opposition's are written in stone and one hopes that the two sides will sit down together to thrash out the modus operandi of the commission with the objective of achieving a consensus required by democratic principles as well as national interest."
No doubt, ToRs are not sacred but national interest is. It is therefore heartening to note that the government while rejecting ToRs articulated by the opposition has offered to constitute a government-opposition committee to jointly work towards reaching consensus on a new set of ToRs. Both government and opposition are required to deal with the Panama leaks with prudence in the greater national interest.
