Pakistan Peoples' Party-Workers (PPP-W) on Friday demanded of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to step down over Panama Papers leaks linking his family with offshore companies. "The PM should comprehend the escalating political situation and stop the policy of clash with institutions," said Naheed Khan - the founder of PPP-W and former political secretary to Benazir Bhutto at a press conference at Karachi Press Club (KPC).
"The government and opposition parties are at loggerhead over the issue of formation of commission to probe into Panama leaks, despite the lapse of two months after the leaks. Parliamentarians are indulged in blame games instead of taking serious efforts to settle the issue. They are creating things even more complex and making the entire nation confused over the terms of references (TORs)," she added.
Naheed said that the constitution of a commission would not be helpful to dig out the reality behind the case as it would not be an investigative agency. " Probe into the Panama papers should be conducted through the investigation agencies," she urged. She questioned as to why Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and DG National Accountably Bureau (NAB) and Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) were still silent over the issue of Panama leaks, money laundering, corruption and tax evasion. She said that Sharif family had been ruling the country since long. "What forced them to take the money out of the country to invest in offshore companies?" she questioned. Dr Safdar Abbasi was also present on this occasion.
