US wheat futures firmed on Friday, closing marginally higher on a round of end-of-week short-covering, traders said. For the week, the most actively-traded Chicago Board of Trade July soft red winter wheat contract closed down 5.1 percent. It marked the biggest weekly loss for wheat since mid-November. MGEX spring wheat fell 2.2 percent this week and K.C. hard red winter wheat dropped 4.0 percent.
Plentiful supplies and poor export demand for US wheat limited the gains on Friday. Additionally, futures contracts for all three classes of wheat faced resistance at Thursday's highs.
