NA condemns all forms of violence against women

The National Assembly Friday passed a resolution unanimously condemning all forms of violence against women in the country and called for urgent steps to curb these crimes. MNA Shaista Pervaiz presented a resolution in the Lower House of the parliament. The House unanimously adopted the resolution.
According the resolution, "this House strongly condemns the recent brutal and inhuman attacks on women and girls in Abbottabad, Karachi, Faisalabad, Multan, Jhelum and Peshawar. This House demands that all possible measures be taken to ensure effective implementation of existing laws for the protection of women, girls and children and that exemplary punishment should be awarded against those found guilty under the law."
Earlier, Parliamentary Secretary for Overseas Pakistanis Shafqat Baloch told the House that the government increased the monthly pension of retirees through Employees Old-age Benefits Institution (EOBI) from Rs 3600 to Rs 5250.
While responding to a Calling Attention Notice raised by Asiya Naaz Tanoli and others regarding meager pensions of the retirees registered at EOBI, the Parliamentary Secretary said that the government provided supplementary grant of Rs 835 million to enhance their pensions. He said that 336,000 pensioners of EOBI took benefit of enhancement.
About mega corruption in the EOBI, the Parliamentary secretary said that the Supreme Court had already taken sue motto notice of the alleged corruption and "the mater is sub-judice right now". He said that it was a scam of 18 properties which were purchased for Rs 32.2 billion. He said that former chairman EOBI Zafar Gondal and Director General Investment of EOBI have already been arrested and their bail applications were also turned down. He said that the case would reach to its logical conclusion soon.
Later, speaking on points of order, treasury members of the National Assembly said that success of the PML-N candidate in by-election in Peshawar has proved that the people hate the politics of allegations. They said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's name was not mentioned in Panama Papers. They urged the opposition to avoid criticism for the sake of criticism. They said no corruption has taken place during the tenure of present government. They criticised the negative politics of Imran Khan and his U-turns. They said that previous government took huge loans but did not initiate any mega development project in the country. They said the opposition is creating hurdles in the development process being carried out by the Government.
Muhammad Safdar said assets of his family have already been declared and he does not conceal any assets. He said that PTI Chairman Imran Khan is doing character assassination of an elected member of the National Assembly through media. He said he presents himself for any inquiry.
Those who spoke on points of order included Talal Chaudhry, Nasir Iqbal Bosal, Iftikharul Hassan, Tahira Aurangzeb, Muhammad Safdar, Munir Azhar, Maulana Amir Zaman, Kiran Haider, Maulana Qamaruddin, Surriya Asghar and Raja Javed Ikhlas. Federal Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid also introduced "The Explosive Substances (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the House. The House will now meet on May 16th at five pm.
