Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday banned land acquisition for setting up of housing societies in the federal capital. An official said that the Interior Minister issued directives to cancel land acquisition for setting up of housing foundation in Bara Kahu under section-4 and directed Special Secretary Ministry of Interior to conduct an inquiry in this regard. The Interior Minister further said that misuse of laws would not be allowed to provide benefits to a particular group, while depriving the poor of their property at throw away prices.
Nisar asked Chief Commissioner Islamabad not to become a part of such action, he said. "I will support every residential scheme for the poor employees of the federal government if the land is purchased from the inhabitant of rural areas at market rates," the Minister said. He warned that as long as he is the minister the land mafia whether its government or private would not be allowed to grab land in Islamabad.
