Adjourning the hearing of Media Commission recommendations case for two weeks on Wednesday, the apex court asked all the parties to submit a written response. Appearing before a two-member bench led by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, the petitioner, Hamid Mir, a journalist, contended that except for the appointment of a permanent Chairman for Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), none of the Media Commission recommendations was implemented in letter and spirit.
Additional Attorney General for Pakistan Aamir Rehman apprised the court that a committee, constituted for the implementation of Media Commission recommendations has started its work.
The counsel for Pakistan Broadcasters Association Aitzaz Ashan submitted that his client's role was to formulate a code of conduct which the Association accomplished with the consensus of the parties concerned, saying currently it is the business of Pemra to observe the code of conduct.
However, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan observed that role of Pemra was not over till the implementation of recommendations of the Media Commission; to which Ahsan sought time to examine the status of recommendations.
Accepting the PBA counsel's plea, the bench issued directives to the parties concerned to give their view point on the next date of hearing.
The hearing of matter was adjourned for two weeks.
