The police on Friday informed Sindh High Court (SHC) that the encroachment from Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Co-operative Housing Society had been removed and the possession of the land was handed over to its real owners. The SHC bench was hearing an application seeking contempt of court proceedings against the KMC's anti-encroachment cell director, SSP Malir, and others over their failure in the removal of encroachments from the society.
In Friday's hearing, the SSP Malir submitted the report stating that complying with the court's order, they had successfully managed to vacate the land from the clutches of grabbers, adding that the possession of the land has now been handed over to its real owners. After the submission of compliance report, the court disposed of the application against police and anti-encroachment cell.
In the previous hearing, the respondents had assured the court that the encroachments at Aligarh Muslim University Old boys Co-operative Housing Society would be removed in two steps. On 11th May initial portion will be vacated from encroachers in first step and in second step, remaining encroachments will be removed on 23rd and 24th May, they had stated. Earlier, the appellant had filed a contempt application against the KMC's anti-encroachment cell's director, land utilisation department and other authorities concerned for failing to comply with the court's directives.
