Expressing displeasure over the Capital Development Authority's failure in implementing the court directives in a property tax matter, the apex court said Friday that current case would be resolved if one or two authority officials are sent behind the bars.
Appearing before a three-member bench of Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Pakistan Television counsel alleged that the CDA levied unjustifiable property tax of Rs 30 million even after the top court intervention in the case. Earlier, on May 4 the top court had asked the CDA to address the property tax issue of state owned organisation and turn up with tangible development in the case.
A plea of the PTV urged the apex court to provide constitutional cover from unjustified tax demand of the CDA, saying that even after paying the property tax to the CDA, the Authority imposed Rs 30 million tax on the PTV illegally. During the course of proceedings, responding to the PTV counsel's contention, the CDA lawyer pleaded that during the forthcoming Board meeting of the CDA, the matter would be resolved. To which Chief Justice Jamali directed the CDA to take concrete steps to address the matter as early as possible and adjourned the hearing for indefinite period.
