As the water inflow in the four live rivers has been increasing during past four days, the river Kabul has attained the stage of medium flood at Nowshera and the mighty Indus is nearing the low flood level at Jinnah and Chashma barrages. According to 10th June report of WAPDA regarding position of the river inflows and outflows at Tarbela, Mangla, Chashma, Guddu and Sukkur along with the reservoirs levels, over 76,800 cusecs water is running in the river Kabul near Nowshera attaining the stage of medium flood.
Water flow in the mighty Indus has been constantly increasing since Monday which was 193,000 cusecs on Friday. Over 220,000 cusecs was inflowing at Jinnah Barrage and 245,000 cusecs at Chashma barrage which is low flood stage in the Indus river zone. The report said that 50,500 cusecs water was flowing in river Jhelum at Mangla dam and 55,500 cusecs in the Chenab River at Marala headworks near Sialkot.
The Punjab Irrigation department is discharging 20,000 cusecs water in the Marala - Ravi link to supplement water availability in the river Ravi near Lahore. It Is running the strategic Upper Chenab Canal with 12,500 cusecs water to sow and irrigate crops in the district of Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Sheikhupura. Punjab Irrigation is also drawing over 21,000 cusecs water in the Chashma - Jhelum link canal from the Indus zone according to its share of water from the Indus zone for sowing of the Kharif crops in south Punjab.
Reservoirs: Level and Storage: Tarbela- Minimum operating level 1380 feet, present level 1455.95 feet, maximum conservation level 1550 feet, live storage today 1.734 million acre feet (MAF). Mangla- Minimum operating level 1040 feet, present level 1199.25 feet, maximum conservation level 1242 feet, live storage today 4.344 MAF. Chashma- Minimum operating level 637 feet, present level 647 feet, maximum conservation level 649 feet, live storage today 0.200 MAF.
