On the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister, Price Control Magistrates have accelerated crackdown against the traders and shopkeepers involved in profiteering, hoarding and adulteration and other violations in 36 districts of the province.
According to Ramadan Monitoring Report, maximum fine of more than Rs 263.000 was recovered from Rahim Yar Khan while minimum fine of Rs 7000 was imposed in district Toba Tek Singh. As many as 1428 raids were conducted in district Lahore and a fine of Rs 85500 was received. Moreover, 136 FIRs were registered and 213 traders were arrested. 1756 Price Control Magistrates checked 1698 markets of different cities and conducted raids on 8511 shops.
As many as 1554 traders and shopkeepers faced legal action for overcharging while 44 shopkeepers were found involved in hoarding. Price Control Magistrates took legal action and got registered 210 FIRs. About 287 traders and shopkeepers were arrested and a fine of Rs 1748300 was imposed. Similarly, 2194 shops were inspected for checking weights and measures and violation of law was detected at 248 places. About 145 traders and shopkeepers were arrested for short weighting.
