Met Office said on Thursday that strong monsoon currents are likely to penetrate in upper parts of the country in next 48 hours. A fresh westerly wave is also expected to approach upper parts of the country on Saturday. Under the influence of these meteorological conditions, the forecast for coming days is:
Punjab: Widespread rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls accompanied by strong gusty winds are expected in Islamabad and Upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions) from Saturday to Monday. Scattered rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are also expected in central and South Punjab (Multan, Sahiwal, D.G. Khan, Bahawalpur divisions) during the period.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Widespread rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls accompanied by strong gusty winds are expected in KP (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, D.I Khan divisions) from Saturday to Monday.
Kashmir: Widespread rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected in Kashmir (Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Poonch divisions) from Saturday to Monday.
FATA: Widespread rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls accompanied by strong gusty winds are expected in FATA (Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, North & South Agencies) from Saturday to Monday.
Gilgit-Baltistan: Scattered rain-thunderstorm is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan from Saturday to Monday.
Monsoon rain coupled with glacier-melt water may result in outburst of some glacial lakes in Chitral, Gilgit, Ghizer and Shigar areas. Heavy downpour may generate urban flooding in big cities and flash flooding in vulnerable areas of Punjab and KP during Saturday to Monday. All authorities concerned have been advised to remain Alert during the period.
Flood situation: Meanwhile, the Flood Warning Centre Lahore has said that according to latest Hydrological situation at 0600 PST, River Indus at Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma and Taunsa and River Kabul at Nowshera are in low flood level. All the other major rivers are flowing below low flood level.
