Footcare is a top priority when showcasing your feet in sandals or flip-flops. Chiropodist Tatjana Pfersich's advice is to make sure the skin is smooth and the toenails are cut correctly before freeing your feet to the world.
Nail polish is also important.
"Colours such as dark red, bright blue, sun yellow or soft ice cream tones are a great fashion statement, as are unusual patterns. "These include fine lines and checks," explains Kerstin Hauernherm, marketing director at Beauty Alliance, an association for independent perfumeries.
"If you're feeling brave, a black and white checkered pattern is a great choice."
Hauernherm says that the French manicure, which consists of pale pink nails with white tops, is a top trend for toenails right now. Artifical nails are also popular.
"False tips are glued onto the end of the natural nail, and a light-curing gel is applied to the entire toenail," explains beautician Nicole Wieners. One advantage is that broken or shorter nails can be concealed by the false nails.
As toenails grow more slowly than fingernails do, the gel treatment lasts between 6 and 10 weeks.
It is important that nail studios use products that are specifically designed for toenails. These gels are extra resilient and adapt to the movements of the feet. They also often contain anti-fungal substances.
If you prefer to paint your nails yourself, peach, papaya or mango are the colours to go for. Peter Schmiedinger from the German Cosmetics Association explains that these are the additional nail polish trends for this year.
If your feet are smooth, the toenails are trimmed and filed and you've picked a trendy colour for your nail polish, there is one more thing to take care of.
Every now and then the feet need a nourishing treatment with a lotion. Nowadays there a number of products on the market that help both the skin and the nails. If you do put lotion on your feet, you should do this one hour before applying nail polish.
Otherwise the lotion will not have had enough time to fully absorb into the nails, and the polish will not stay in place.
Bandana in the hair is the look of now
A bandana or kerchief in the hair is a great way to give yourself a dash of colour up top in hot weather, says top stylist Dagmar Dobrofsky.
"The material should be soft and thin," she explains. This is because a kerchief should appear wispier than your hair does. This means that you should avoid wearing bandanas made from heavier fabric if you have thin hair.
Headbands are a better option in this case.
Bandanas should not completely cover the hair like headscarves, recommends Dobrofsky. For dark hair a kerchief in a darker colour is best, while brighter colours are best for paler hair. Patterned squares are a great way of contributing more fun and colour to your bandana style.
"If you have short hair, a small bandana with a knot at the front is a really nice option," says Dobrofsky. A side knot looks smart with taller hairstyles, and if you have long hair, a larger piece of cloth that is knotted at the back looks nice.
