Continued banking operation due to closing of the financial year and delay in upgradation of system caused some technical difficulties in operating system and disbursement of pension, said Nausherwan Adil SEVP Group Chief Operations National Bank of Pakistan (NBP). Talking to newsmen here Saturday at NBP head office, Adil said after this situation National Bank management made special arrangements to ensure payments to pensioners before Eid-ul-Fitr.
All branches have been directed to keep operations continue even after the banking hours for payment of pension. He said some 1.4 million pensioners are on NBP system, of which 0.4 million are on government payment system and 0.8 million on direct credit system. Payment under the direct credit system was started at about 3:30pm, while, payments under the government payment system were being made since morning.
"Due to revenue collection, the system got 8-10 hours for upgradation and the NBP backup was completed on Saturday afternoon...around 3pm, after which the system returned to normal and payments were resumed," he added. He said the NBP staff was working in the branches late night to facilitate customers.
