Punjab Provincial Development Working Party has approved Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI). Health department expert said that EPI is a disease prevention activity aiming at reducing illness, disability and mortality from childhood diseases preventable by immunization.
These diseases are referred as eight EPI target diseases and cause millions of ailments, disabilities and deaths each year including Poliomyelitis, Neonatal Tetanus, Measles, Diphthe, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), Hepatitis-B, Hib Pneumonia & Meningitis Childhood Tuberculosis.
The EPI was approved in the second meeting of Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) of current fiscal year 2016-17 presided over by the Punjab Chairman P&D Board Jahanzeb Khan.
Provincial Secretary P&D Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, members of the Planning & Development Board, Provincial Secretaries concerned and other senior representatives of the relevant departments also attended the meeting.
According to P&DD spokesman, the meeting also approved the Public Building Sector scheme of acquisition of land for expansion of Punjab Forensic Science Agency Thokar Niaz Baig, Lahore at the cost of Rs 333.443 million.
