Chief Secretary Punjab Capt Zahid Saeed (retd) has announced to observe "Dengue Day" throughout the province on Saturday, July 23, this year. All the Governmental and semi-government offices and the premises of educational institutions will be swept for identification of dengue larvae on 23rd of July besides holding awareness seminars on Dengue Day.
While addressing the video link conference on dengue control at Civil Secretariat, Lahore, the Chief Secretary Punjab directed the district administration of all 36 districts of the province to remain extra-vigilant during the current breeding season of dengue and invigorate the sanitary patrol teams and ordered to start dengue larva sweeping activity in full swing. He emphasised the need to prevent the spread of dengue virus before the larvae of dengue mosquitoes developed into actual vector. Otherwise, all efforts against the spread of dengue fever would become fruitless, he added.
The Chief Secretary offered all the Commissioners and DCOs of the province to requisite the needful machinery, insecticides, entomologists and other manpower to accomplish the larvaecidal activities particularly inside the households and on the poundings after the recent rains in different areas of Punjab. He stressed upon improving hospital management of the confirmed dengue patients in the dengue wards of the public sector, hospitals and said, the relevant doctors and the paramedics should be specially trained for the initial handling of the patients suffering from dengue fever. He also directed the sanitary petrol teams to sweep and identify dengue larvae on the roof tops of the households and also impart knowledge about sweeping of dengue larvae to residents.
Zahid Saeed ordered to circulate the standard operating procedures for dengue control to all the stakeholders and stressed upon the need to inspect the second hand tyres shops in particular as the current season of dengue vector generation is more dangerous than the last one as for as its biological lifecycle is concerned. The government will make it sure that all the educational institutions of the province be opened a week before the summer vocations to spray insecticides. The Chief Secretary advised all the manpower involved in larvaecidal activities and the public at large to remain alert and more vigilant for stopping the dengue spread in the days to come. The Punjab government will extend all out assistance in this regard, the Chief Secretary added.
