The Special Committee of the National Assembly on Kashmir lamented the 'silence' of international human rights organisations on the ongoing atrocities against Kashmiris in the Indian held Kashmir by Indian security forces and vowed to continue moral, political and diplomatic support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir at all levels.
The committee, which met for in-camera session with its chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman in the chair after a long period, also constituted another 'special committee' headed by member National Assembly Ijazul Haq to prepare recommendations for aggressively raising the issue of Kashmir at international platform.
The meeting was held in connection with the "Black Day" which was observed across the country to express solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to condemn the Indian atrocities on Kashmiri people. Briefing reporters after the meeting, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the five-member 'special committee' will finalise the recommendations in next 10 days which would be presented before the joint session of the parliament for debate.
After approval of the recommendations by the joint sitting of the parliament, he said that these would be sent to the Foreign Office and other relevant departments as policy guidelines on Kashmir issue. Through a resolution passed unanimously by the committee, it also called upon the international community and human rights bodies to take notice of the human rights violation in the Indian occupied Kashmir.
It stated that Pakistan's quest for peace in the region should not be deemed as its weakness, adding Pakistan being a nuclear power, has the fullest capacity to defend its territorial sovereignty. However, it emphasised that peace talks with India on all outstanding issues including the issue of Jammu and Kashmir was the only viable way, adding the political leadership of India should adopt a positive attitude regarding talks with Pakistan on all outstanding issues, especially Kashmir dispute.
The resolution called on the international community and the major democracies of the world to play their due role to resolve the Kashmir dispute in light of the UN Security Council resolutions. It stated that issues like Kashmir disputes need an early solution in order to provide a favourable environment for execution of the development projects like China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is necessary for the peace and prosperity of the region and their people.
The committee also endorsed the four-point peace formula presented by Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Geelani on resolution of Kashmir. The committee strongly condemned the ongoing atrocities against the innocent Kashmiri people, especially women and children by Indian security forces as well as the killing of Kashmiri leader Burhan Wani.
The committee also urged Doctor Without Border to extend all possible medical treatment to the wounded Kashmiri people as the result of the ongoing clashes with Indian security forces and also expressed Pakistan's readiness to provide treatment to the injured Kashmiri people in the country's hospitals.
To a question, Maulana said that Pakistan and India have been engaged in bilateral talks on Kashmir but the Indian side has no intention to reach a solution, adding in such situation, it was necessary that the internal community should find an amicable solution to the dispute in light of the Security Council resolutions. He further said that the committee has also recommended convening an international conference on Kashmir so that the international community is sensitized to undertake effective measures for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
