Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) would achieve the target to recruit 65,000 apprentices by December this year, Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said. Addressing a meeting to review the progress of Apprenticeship Training Scheme on Wednesday, he said TEVTA has already achieved the target to recruit 28,000 apprentices by December 2015.The number of enrolment of apprentices is constantly growing. The strength of apprentices has now reached to 41,574. The strength of apprentices was 14,018 by June, 2015.
He said, according to a vision by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, we're trying to promote the apprenticeship training scheme across the province. "Now the apprenticeship scheme has been made more flexible to give a maximum benefit to our youth. The summary for age relaxation to apprentices up to the age of 28 years has already been approved by the chief minister. It will help combat the menace of unemployment. It is worth mentioning that the strength of apprentices up to June 2015 was 14,018. By the end of December this year, more than 20,000 trainees will be enrolled as apprentices in different industries of the Punjab."
He also said, "So far 1,985 industries have been notified for implementation of the apprenticeship scheme, whereas 100 new industries are under process of notification. We're also organising seminars, skill competitions, employers' days and school-student awareness programmes for dissemination of the apprenticeship training scheme."
