The country's governing party has slammed the latest round of violence in the Indian administered Kashmir, saying the just struggle of Kashmiri people "can never be suppressed with the use of force". Party leader Mohammad Pervaiz Malik, who was elected as a member of the National Assembly on a party ticket from NA-123 (Lahore) in the 2013 general election, told a party meeting on Wednesday marking a "black day".
"India is violating the basic human rights by depriving the Kashmiris of their right of self-determination. The Kashmiris cannot be denied of their basic right of self-determination through suppressive tactics. A lasting peace cannot be ensured in the region without a solution of the Kashmir problem in the light of United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of Kashmiri people."
He claimed that his government had raised the issue in all forums during its every tenure and that Pakistan would continue its moral, diplomatic and political support to Kashmiri people. The disputed Kashmir is claimed in its entirety by both India and Pakistan and has been a flashpoint for more than 60 years, sparking three wars between the countries. Within the disputed Muslim-majority territory, some groups have taken up arms to fight for independence.
