At least 13 people were killed in a collision between a speeding coach and a truck early on Tuesday near the Thermal Power Station in Jamshoro district. According to initial reports received from in charge Edhi Foundation Hyderabad, the ill-fated speedy coach was on its way to Karachi from Dera Ghazi Khan, when it reached near Petaro/ Thermal Power House Jamshoro, the driver failed to notice a stationary truck on the road and rammed the bus into it.
As a result, scores of passengers received fatal injuries, of them eight breathed their last before they could get any first aid while five succumbed to injuries later.
The deceased include Arbab Ali Lund, Muhammad Suleman, Mustafa Khan, Abu Bakar, Faiz Muhammad, Yaseen Khan, Muhammad Mustafa, baby Hina, Muhammad Suhail, Aachar Khan Solangi, Mir Muhammad, Ameer Khan, Karo son of Kewal and Saeed Ahmed.
The passengers who sustained injuries include baby Shahzadi, Baitullah, Zahoor Khan, Muhammad Rasool, Sadiq Ali, Fahad, Shahid Ameen, Muhammad Ameen, Aftab Ahmed, Anwer Ali, Iqbal Hussain, Abdul Ghani, Khair Muhammad, Abdur Rehman, Muhammad Ayaz, Umer Farooque, Abdul Sattar, Saho Khan, Liaquat, Rabiuddin, Tariq, Dargah Bibi, Kubra Bibi, Abdul Gaffar, Hakim Bibi, Mudasar, Hajra Bibi, Abdul Hameed, Bilal Shah, Saima Bibi and Samreen.
The Police and volunteers of Edhi Foundation rushed to spot and started rescue work. The bodies and injured persons who were rescued out of the wreckage of the coach were shifted to Liaquat University Hospital Jamshoro. Out of 13 dead bodies 8 were shifted to morgue at civil hospital Hyderabad.
According to Station House Officer (SHO) Jamshoro, the accident took place due to reckless driving of coach driver in which drivers and cleaners of both the vehicles lost their lives.
Emergency was declared at Liaquat Medical University Hospital Jamshoro and Hyderabad but due to wee hours shortage of doctors, para-medical staff as well as medicines was witnessed.
It is pertinent to mention that road accidents on Sehwan-Jamshoro section of Indus Highway had become a routine and dozens of precious lives had been lost while dozens others acquired lifelong disabilities in accidents on the said section of the highway having single lane and dangerous curves. Social activists of the area had also staged protests to derive attention of concerned authorities towards the plight and demanded for extension of high way into a double lane road to prevent accidents.
