Detention of Anjuman Mazaraeen's leaders: LHC seeks replies from Secretary Home Department, IG Prisons

The Lahore High Court on Thursday sought replies from Secretary Home Department and Inspector General of Prisons by August 11, in response to a petition challenging detention of leaders of Anjuman Mazaraeen in Okara. During hearing of the petition, a bench expressed concern over alleged inhuman treatment meted to a leader of the organisation, Mehr Abdul Sattar, in Sahiwal jail.
Earlier, Advocates Asma Jahangir and Sardar Akbar Dogar argued on behalf of the petitioners that the district administration of Okara detained Sattar and other leaders of the organisation illegally. The counsel said the court had set aside detention of the petitioners but the government issued fresh detention orders. The lawyers said all the detained leaders were being subjected to physical torture and inhuman treatment in jail. They asked the court to set aside the detention of the petitioners and directed the government to free them.
