Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai on Tuesday urged the government to summon a joint-sitting of Parliament to discuss and revisit internal and foreign policies to curb terrorism in the country. "It is not sufficient to simply blame other foreign agencies including the Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Mossad for carrying out such horrendous terrorist attack in Quetta," he said while speaking in the National Assembly on Quetta incident.
Achakzai also termed the incident failure of intelligence agencies, saying "our law enforcement personnel and agencies are present in every nook and corner of Quetta city but they failed to secure it." He said the nefarious elements are on parole of our agencies and those who are found sitting on front seats in official ceremonies should have been in jail.
"Peace will be restored in the country the day we decide not to become part of any proxy war," he said, adding that the government should declare it an attack on Pakistan like the Unites States had declared 9/11 attacks as an attack on America within five minutes. Achakzai said that over 100,000 innocent people had lost their lives in terrorism-related activities so far, adding that a very large number of people were killed in Quetta. He also suggested that a PIA aircraft should be chartered and all parliamentarians should visit Quetta to express solidarity with the bereaved families.
All state institutions should work within their limits, he said, adding that war against terrorism could only be won with unity and support of the people. Federal Minister for Housing and Works Akram Khan Durrani termed the Quetta tragedy an attack on the whole country. He said that Chief Minister Balochistan and chief of army staff have termed it an attack on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). "If America or India is involved in this attack, then we should name them," he said, adding that CPEC is a project of the whole nation.
He blamed media of creating differences between politicians and army. He also accused an analyst of a private television channel of declaring Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Mehmood Khan Achakzai as traitors. Durrani said that both houses of the parliament should take notice of it and devise a policy to protect dignity of parliamentarians. PPP MNA Abdul Sattar Bachani said it is the responsibility of the government and state institutions to ensure the security of lives and properties of the people. He said grievances of smaller provinces should be addressed on an immediate basis.
PML-N MNA Tahira Aurangzeb suggested each member should donate his or her one month's salary to the bereaved families of Quetta tragedy. She said that peace is imperative to achieve the goal of progress and prosperity in the country. She said all the political parties should rise above their differences and get united to foil the designs of enemies. MQM MNA Dr Fauzia Hameed emphasised the need for promotion of harmony and unity in society. She said that Parliament should pass an effective legislation to counter the menace of terrorism.
Parliamentary Secretary for National Food Security Rajab Ali Baloch appreciated the sacrifices rendered by the security forces in the war on terror. He said that all political parties should shun their differences. Jamaat-i-Islami MNA Sher Akbar said that Pakistan should come out of the US alliance as the country has suffered numerous financial and human losses. He also urged the government to establish friendly relationship with Afghanistan for peace in the region. He said the civilian and military leadership should sit together to thrash out a solution to put an end to militancy and restore peace in the country.
JUI-F MNA Naeema Kishwar said the struggle against terrorism cannot succeed until all policies generate from the parliament. She said that a policy should be devised with co-operation of Afghan authorities on repatriation of refugees. PTI MNA Munazza Hassan said the parliament is a supreme forum and a government representatives should inform the legislators about progress on implementation of National Action Plan.
She also urged Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq to constitute a committee on demands of journalists in relation to their lives, health insurance and compensations for families of those who are killed in the line of duty. Jamshed Dasti, Tahir Iqbal, Ghaus Bux Mehar, Alia Kamran and Maulana Ameer Zaman also spoke on the Quetta carnage in the house.
