The nephew of former Senate chairman Mohammad Mian Soomro was gunned down and another person sustained bullet injuries after an exchange of firing between the two rivals groups in an argument over a girl in the wee hours of Monday. A police official, who declined to be named, told Business Recorder that the exchange of fire took place between Raja Arshad and Malik Tariq groups in the posh sector of F-10.
After the exchange of fire, both the groups reached Shalimar police station where the police managed to strike a deal between them and settled the issue. However, when they left the police station both the groups again exchanged harsh words and exchanged firing again against each other at sector F-10/3 service road. As a result, a nephew of former Senate chairman Mohammad Mian Soomro, Barrister Fahad Malik was killed, who acted as a mediator between the two groups.
Another person Malik Tariq was injured as a result of firing resorted by Raja Arshad group, the police sources said. The police official said that Malik Tariq belongs to Gujjar Khan and is known well-known liquor dealer of the city. He said that the police rushed to the scene and shifted the dead and injured to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for medical treatment. According to an initial postmortem report, the victim received four bullets; two in the face, one in the neck and one in the back, the police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SPP) Sajjid Kyani suspended Station House Officer (SHO) Shalimar police station Zulfikar Ali for negligence in the arrest of accused after the incident and handpicked Inspector Fayyaz Ranja as new SHO.
He said that the police are conducting raids for the arrest of Arshad, who is still at large, and there has been no arrest till filing of this report. The SSP constituted an investigation team headed by Deputy Superintend of Police (DSP) Ghulam Muhamamd Baqir, comprising of inspector Fayyaz Ranja and other police officials. The police have collected evidence from the crime scene and started investigation.
