Governor Punjab Malik Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana on Friday said that Pakistan is on the path of economic revival due to concerted efforts by federal government. He was addressing the gathering of business community organised by the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) at Federation House here.
Commending the role of business community, Rajwana said peace has been restored in Karachi due to efforts of the law enforcement agencies, adding that energy crises would be overcome soon. "Karachi has regained its lost glory due the targeted operation against criminals in the city," he said. He said cotton's sowing in decreased by 20 per cent this year but better crop is being expected this year. He assured the business community to discuss the concerns with prime minister regarding zero rated tax for new industry alongside the CPEC route. "Exports refunds would be released soon to businessmen," he added. He said federal government is improving education system in the country.
Appreciating the efforts of Sindh Rangers, police and law enforcement agencies, Chief Executive Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) SM Muneer said law and order situation in the city has significantly improved. He said CPEC would prove game changer in the region. He said Pakistan exports have been declined due to global recession. In his welcome address, Senior Vice President FPCCI Khalid Tawwab said that textile is backbone of national economy but unfortunately cotton crop has been shrinking for last two years.
"Last year country has produced 9.8 billion bales of cotton which 40 per cent less than of 15.8 billion bales in preceding years," he said. He advised the government to take business community on board so that community could contribute potentially in this national project.
