The city police have launched an inquiry into the alleged attack by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader and workers on the New Town Police Station, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Ghias Gul. Talking to Business Recorder here on Friday, SSP Traffic Gul said the police had started an inquiry into attack on New Town Police Station on August 11, following the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Abbasi.
"The investigators have recorded the statements of police personnel and will also record the statements of PML-N workers in next few days to conclude the inquiry," he said. SSP said investigators would also examine the CCTV footages of the incident, adding he would ascertain the role of the police during the incident as the PML-N leader alleged that the police station was damaged by the policemen inside the police station.
The attack on August 11 was carried out allegedly by the activists of the PML-N Youth Wing, led by former MNA of PML-N and Chairman twin cities Metro Bus Project Hanif Abbasi to get his men released who were arrested by the police on the charges of one-wheeling.
Scores of Abbasi's supporters stormed into the police station and demanded the release of the PML-N workers who were booked for one-wheeling on the busiest roads of the city. The charged protesters also thrashed the policemen who were on duty to secure the Youth Convention of PML-N. However, PML-N former MNA, Hanif Abbasi denied that the activists of his party were involved in ransacking the police station.
