The Supreme Court on Friday sought detailed report from Secretary Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) on the availability of medicines and current functional status of medical equipments in the Federal capital public hospitals.
Resuming the hearing of suo motu notice over alleged gross corruption in supply of oxygen and nitrogen gasses and theft of medicines from the hospitals, a two-member bench of the Justice Mian Saqib Nisar also issued directives to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to file an inquiry report after probing the oxygen and nitrogen gasses cylinder supply on exorbitant rates to Federal Government Poly Clinic (FGPC) Hospital, Islamabad.
After examining the Additional District Judge (West), Islamabad, Sayyed Faizan Haider's court record pertaining to a case of Business Developers filed against Executive Director of the FGPC Hospital, Islamabad, the Supreme Court issued directives to the Session Court to finalise adjudication over the stay application till August 22.
Business Developers was supplying nitrogen gas to Polyclinic Hospital and was granted stay order by the Additional Sessions Judge Islamabad to open tender for the supply of the gas till final decision of the Session Court. The top court said in its order that if Sayyed Faizan Haider was on leave then the vacation judge shall take up the matter and dispose it of on August 22. The bench also issued directives to all the provincial law officers to provide details about the machineries and other equipments in the DHQ Hospitals and their status of being operative on the next date.
During the course of proceedings, Secretary CADD Hassan Iqbal, apprised the bench that he had taken into account all the aspects of the case and was ready to probe the matter personally. Iqbal sought two weeks time to probe the matter whereas Federal Investigation Agency' Director informed that the Agency had jurisdiction to investigate the matter in hand. He further said he had explained it to the Senate Standing Committee, which was also looking at alleged corruption in Polyclinic.
He informed that a total of 102 technicians were recruited in the Islamabad hospitals out of which 20 were not eligible for the job. To which the bench issued him directives to probe the supply of nitrogen and oxygen gasses by Business Development to Polyclinic besides asking the Secretary CADD to make sure that there should not be shortage of nitrogen gas in Polyclinic Hospital.
Responding to the pleading of counsel for Business Development Islamabad to become party in the matter the bench said the court shall take decision in the matter after examining his client application. Later, hearing of the case was adjourned till September 06.
