US Consul General Brian Heath and Sindh Education Minister Jam Mahtab Hussain Dahar inaugurated a state-of-the-art school in Kolab Jial, Khairpur. The US Agency for International Development (USAID) provided funding for the school's construction as part of the Sindh Basic Education Programme (SBEP). USAID Deputy Mission Director Denise Herbol, USAID Senior Policy Advisor Randy Hatfield and Sindh Education Secretary Fazlullah Pechuho also attended.
"The United States strongly supports education in Pakistan, and this is just one of the 106 state-of-the-art schools that USAID is constructing in partnership with the Sindh government," said Consul General Heath. "Here, more than 500 boys and girls will be able to learn and grow in an environment designed to helps them realise all of their natural talents and abilities. This will enable them to live better lives and strengthen Pakistan as a nation."
Sindh Education Minister Jam Mahtab Hussain Dahar expressed his appreciation to the US government for its strong support. "We are very grateful to USAID for helping us rebuild schools to increase the number of facilities and quality of education." USAID is also helping the Sindh government implement much needed educational reforms, he said.
USAID-funded SBEP will construct up to 106 modern school buildings in eight districts of Sindh. Currently, 60 schools are under construction with four schools inaugurated in April and May 2016. SBEP aims to increase and sustain student enrolment in primary, middle and secondary public schools in selected areas of Sindh.-PR
