The administration of Sohrab Goth Maweshi Mandi (cattle market) is confident to provide hassle-free environment for the traders and buyers of sacrificial animals as the Asia's biggest makeshift cattle market was inaugurated by the Sindh minister for livestock Muhammad Ali Malkani here on Thursday.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Malkani said that Sindh government and city government were helping the cattle market administration in facilitating traders and people of the city. "On the directives of Sindh governor Dr Ishratul-Ebad, veterinary doctors and paramedical staff appointed by his ministry, are working in their designated camp in the Maweshi Mandi Sohrab Goth on Super Highway, he said adding that the team consisted of 17 veterinary officers, 16 paramedical staff and stock assistants and at least 5 doctors would work in each of the 3 shifts round the clock to facilitate traders in inspection and treatment of their animals at the mandi.
He said that it was an honour for Sindh and Karachi to host traders from all over Pakistan at large scale. He said this highlighted the economic importance of Karachi that traders find it more conducive to sell their stock and benefit from the purchasing power of people of this city.
President of Malir Cantonment Board Qasim Changezi said: "We are now confident that all will go fine as far as well-being and convenience of people and their livestock are concerned." Administrator Maweshi Mandi Jehangir Chaudhry said this year the Mandi was set up on an area of 950 acres in which 750 acres were reserved for cow mandi with total 26 blocks which included 5 VIP blocks for cattle from the farms; while market for goat and camel was established on 200 acres. Traders from all over Pakistan have already started bringing in their animals at the cattle market and more than 150,000 animals have been brought into the market so far.
