Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan on Friday directed the administrator Karachi to prepare a PC-1 for installation of CCTV cameras at all major parks of the city aimed to create a sense of safety and security among visiting families. The directive was issued at meeting that reviewed ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of various parks and roadside plantation.
Governor presided over the meeting at Governor's House where his principal secretary Muhammad Hussain Syed, secretary local government Baqaullah Unnar, administrator Karachi Laeeq Ahmed, director general Parks KMC Abdullah Mushtaq, and other offices attended. Governor also directed to form Mohallah Management Committees (MMCs) for parks for day-to-day care and monitoring of the facilities provided to concerned parks. He said this would develop a sense of ownership amongst them and they would do their utmost to monitor, protect and preserve the parks.
He also asked the DG Parks to consult renowned botanists to ensure plantation of saplings and trees keeping in view the climate of Karachi that would not only beautify the city but also minimise the menace of environmental pollution. He urged that the NGOs working for the betterment of environment should also be taken on board in this regard to spread awareness about tree plantation and its benefits on the overall environmental scenario of the city.
Governor Sindh directed to examine the possibility of establishment of libraries or reading rooms in major parks of the city to facilitate those park-goers who are fond of reading. He also directed for ensuring proper lighting at parks. DG Parks informed Governor Sindh that the KMC was managing 35 parks and 31 main roads of the city. He said besides beautification work at these parks and roads, emphasis was being laid on planting new saplings, flowers and trees to make them more attractive and beautiful.
