The data on recovery and line losses prepared by the Ministry of Water and Power has no match with the data available with the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), said reliable PEPCO sources.
The sources pointed out that the ministry has shown a collection of 93.30 percent against the actual collection of 83.90 percent in June 2006, followed by 88.80% against 82.70% in June 2008, 91% against 104.70% in June 2009, 86.50% against 89.80% in June 2010, 89.50% against 86.00% in June 2011, 87.90% against 93.70% in June 2012, 88.70% against 93.70% in June 2013, 88.60% against 89.70% in June 2014 and 93.40% against 88.20% in June 2015.
Similarly, on the side of transmission and dispatch losses, the ministry has shown a loss of 19.10 percent against 21.10 percent in June 2008, 20.20% against 20.90% in June 2009, 19.40% against 20.80% in June 2010, 19.70% against 20.50% in June 2011, 19.10% against 20.10% in June 2012, 18.60% against 19.60% in June 2013, 19.10% against 19.80% in June 2014 and 18% against 19.90% in June 2015.
It may be noted that the federal secretary water and power Muhammad Younas Dagha had also made a media presentation two weeks back where the same data was displayed on recoveries and losses. The power sector experts have pointed out that normally the data is collected on the basis of financial year. However, a mark difference in data suggests that the ministry may have collected data on the basis of a calendar year, and not the financial year. Otherwise, there cannot be such a huge difference in data of the PEPCO and the ministry.
It is worth noting that the ministry has shown less line losses against the PEPCO. The experts pointed out that a visible difference in data might confuse the situation as the books they published were being utilized by every government department.
