Fresh monsoon rain spell continued on second consecutive day on Sunday, turning the city's weather pleasant, but 5 people lost their lives in different rain-related incidents here. The commuters suffered problems in reaching their destinations as various roads including University Road and Shahrah-e-Faisal were inundated due to downpour. On the other hand, multitudes of citizens visited beaches and other recreational spots to enjoy the pleasant weather.
The biggest cattle market of Asia located near Sohrab Goth was also turned into muddy sludge while power supply in many areas also remained suspended.
Three persons died of electrocution, two killed in walls collapse in Orangi and Civil Lines areas respectively.
Monsoon downpour lashed Saddar, Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Sohrab Goth, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Drigh Road, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Shah Faisal Town, Korangi, Liaquatabad, Lyari and many other areas.
Karachi Electric (KE)'s various feeders tripped following the rainfall. A KE spokesperson said that teams remained active and their system remained intact. KEs Rapid Response Teams took action immediately in the aftermath of rains to address any disruptions in the supply.
He said that most of the affected feeders were normalised within an hour and almost all of the affected feeders were re-energised within a few hours.
Uninterrupted supply to strategic installations including Airport and Dhabeji was ensured.
KE teams remained in the field to address localised faults and individual queries. Affected areas included Malir, North Karachi and parts of Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
K-Electric field teams and customer call centre were working round the clock to ensure supply and restoration of power to affected customers in this cosmopolitan city.
Systematic investments in systems, operations and processes have enhanced KE's capacity to respond to queries with greater efficiency.
The utility provider continued to urge consumers to stay away from the broken wires, poles and transformers. Moreover, customers are requested to inform about broken wires or lodge complaints by calling at 118 or 021-99000. Queries may also be sent via SMS to 8119 or through KE's digital platforms.
According to Met office, 15 mm rain was recorded in the Airport area since morning, 15 mm rain at Shaarey Faisal and 19 mm rain in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
