The Taiwan Flour Millers' Association purchased 87,900 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States in a tender which closed on Friday, European traders said. The wheat was bought in two consignments comprising various wheat grades, they said.
The first consignment for shipment between October 29 and November 12 comprised 21,850 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought at $248.59 a tonne fob, 11,000 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 13 percent protein content at $232.32 a tonne fob and 17,050 tonnes of soft white wheat with 9 percent protein at $201.60 a tonne fob, traders said.
The first consignment was bought from trading house CHS and has an additional freight charge of $25.75 a tonne for shipping from the US Pacific North West coast to Taiwan, they said.
The second consignment for shipment between November 15-29 comprised 26,303 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought at $248.20 a tonne fob and 11,697 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 13 percent protein content bought at $239.73 a tonne fob, they said.
The second consignment was all purchased from Cargill and has an additional charge of $31.04 a tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific North West coast to Taiwan, they said.
The association is a traditional buyer of US wheat.
In its last reported tender on August 12, the association purchased 85,250 tonnes of milling wheat also to be sourced from the United States.
US wheat futures climbed to a 1-1/2-week high on Thursday on investor short-covering and improved prospects for export demand for shipments out of the United States.
