Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Saturday said that his party-led Sindh government is committed to depoliticising police as operations based on political vengeance will only weaken resolved efforts for restoration of peace and tranquillity. Presiding over a high-level meeting here, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said we believe in rule of law and democracy and no one will be allowed to take law into their own hands.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Minister Nisar Khuhro, Advisors to Chief Minister Maula Bux Chandio, Murtaza Wahab, Saeed Ghani, Senator Taj Haider, Senator Sherry Rehman, Habibuddin Junaidi, Syed Najmi Alam, Waqar Mehdi, Lateef Mughal and Political Secretary to the Chairman Jameel Soomro among others attended the meeting.
The PPP Chairman's remarks came a day after SSP Malir Rao Anwar accused the political government of making a hasty and wrong decision of his suspension following arrest of MQM leader Khawaja Izhar ul Hasan. Rao has insisted that there was no legal bar on police to seek permission from Inspector General (IG) Police or CM Sindh to arrest any lawmaker. During the meeting, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah briefed the Chairman PPP about the ongoing development programmes and the progress made so far in the current fiscal year in Karachi.
It was stressed during the meeting that issues of water, garbage and transport should be taken up on priority basis and both short-term and long-term policies should be adopted to deal with these problems. Bilawal Bhutto also asked the Sindh government for working with the elected representatives of local bodies and ensure that jobs are provided on merit and seeking their cooperation for good governance.
Meanwhile, the Chairman PPP formed a committee for making arrangements for the observance of the death anniversary of martyrs of Karsaz tragedy on October 18 with active participation of the workers and people. The members of the committee included Rashid Rabbani, Saeed Ghani, Waqar Mehdi and Najmi Alam.
