The Lahore High Court on Wednesday directed the Punjab government to restore dilapidated, old and dangerous buildings within the limits of Walled City. The court was hearing a contempt petition against the Walled City Authority (WCA) and sought report within a fortnight. Previously, the LHC had ordered the Punjab government for repairing of old and dangerous buildings within the limits of WCA.
A citizen had moved a contempt petition against the government and pleaded the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the authority's officials and others. He said they did not comply with the orders of the court regarding repairing and restoration of old and dangerous buildings. He submitted that dangerous and dilapidated buildings might take many lives in the historical area. A law officer, however, opposed the arguments of the petitioner saying that a number of old and dangerous buildings were repaired while many others would soon be repaired and restored. The court after hearing both sides, disposed of the contempt petition.
