The Punjab Wildlife & Parks Department has directed all the regional and district wildlife officers to submit a detailed report about effectiveness and location of all the check posts set up in their respective areas to check illegal hunting. Wildlife & Parks Department DG Khalid Ayyaz Khan while chairing a special meeting to review the situation of check posts here on Thursday said that these posts were erected long ago outside different cities. Nevertheless, these check posts were now inside civic limits as a result of expansion of cities.
These posts have lost their utility but some of them are still effective which could be repaired, the DG added. He asked the officers to submit a report about effectiveness of check posts in their ambits or proposals to relocate those which had lost their utility. He said that a summary would be moved to the chief minister to get approval for relocating these check posts and ensure effective protection of the wildlife.
