JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazl-Ur-Rehman on Thursday supported the Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR) law in FATA despite that all the FATA Members of the Parliament have termed it a black law and have demanded its abolishment. While criticising the report of committee on FATA Reforms, Fazal-Ur-Rehman speaking on the floor of the Lower House said, "Military operation in FATA is less against the terrorists but more against the tribal people. Today, we talked about the people of Indian occupied Kashmir but the situation of FATA is no different from it."
To the astonishment of the law makers Maulana Fazal-Ur-Rehman not only supported the FCR law but also spoke in favour of Afghanistan. "You termed FCR as British law in FATA but you have imposed many of their laws in all settled areas of Pakistan. Similarly, Afghanistan also wants the abolishment of Durand Line (boundary between Afghanistan and Pakistan) as drawn by British government at that time and claimed its land from Durand Line to district Jhelum of Pakistan than we should also adhere to their demand," he said.
Maulana said, "You cannot make development in FATA without giving commission to Taliban. You have cleared Swat but some people of Swat are sitting in Afghanistan. Today the traders of Peshawar are receiving scripts from Taliban for extortion money (bhatta)."
He proposed that FATA should be made a separate province by conducting referendum. He said that the people of FATA should be given right of their choice. He claimed that wrong facts and figures were quoted in the report of committee on FATA Reforms. He said, "In the report, word of absconder has been used for the people of FATA."
Maulana said that the lives of the tribal people are disturbed and they are living in miserable condition. He said that first the government should take action for repatriation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their homes and complete reconstruction of rehabilitation work.
FATA Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Ghalib Khan appreciated the committee on FATA Reforms for preparing comprehensive report. He said that for the first time in the history of Pakistan, a government is serious to bring reforms in FATA. He said, "People who have not raised voice for the people of FATA, do not want reforms in the tribal agency for their own personal interest and political gains."
"FCR is a black law which is a cause of mega corruption in FATA. Only those people do not want to abolish this law who are involved in corruption. Some politicians and bureaucracy are part of it", he said. He said that we want education and health facilities in the agency and want to become part of main stream of the country.
