Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) has decided to start a mass mobilisation campaign against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government from October 18 in the event that the ruling party shoots down its Panama Papers (Inquiry and Trial) Bill, 2016 in the National Assembly, it is learnt. According to senior sources in the PPP, the party would first use the forum of Parliament to initiate investigation of Panama papers; but would start a mass mobilisation campaign through public gatherings if it does not succeeds in having the Panama Papers (Inquiry and Trial) Bill, 2016 passed.
However, the sources maintained that while the PPP would not press for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's resignation over the Panama Papers yet the party would insist on the Prime Minister ensuring an independent investigation of Panama Papers. PPP Senior leader Naveed Chaudhry while talking to Business Recorder said the party's re-organisation would be completed in the next four days; and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is holding meetings with provincial leaderships of the party with this specific objective in mind.
"We have submitted a bill on the issue of 'Panama Papers' in the Senate which has been referred to the Standing Committee for further discussion. "Anti-government movement cannot succeed with solo flight of a political party. The PTI leadership's solo flight will not bear fruit. The PPP will start an anti-government movement by taking all opposition parties into confidence. A movement of joint-opposition could bring positive results," he added.
Naveed Chaudhry said PPP was going to contact opposition parties for that purpose and the party intended to hold a big public gathering on October 18 against the incident that took place in 2007 at Saniha-e-Karsaz. Former information minister and PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said "we want investigation of Panama papers Leaks. The PPP has submitted a bill in the Senate to investigate the Prime Minister and his family on Panama Papers but first we will use the forum of parliament for this purpose. Former President Asif Ali Zardari has reportedly said the PPP would not take any emotional decision over the Panama Papers scandal that challenged the Prime Minister Sharif and his family.
