The prices of essential kitchen items especially vegetables have witnessed a significant increase during this past week compared to preceding week, revealed a survey conducted by Business Recorder on Saturday.
As per survey, tomatoes price in the wholesale market jumped from Rs 150 per 5 kg to Rs 200 per 5 kg, which in the retail market are being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 45 per kg, best quality potatoes (fresh arrival) jumped to Rs 200 per 5 kg from Rs 170 per 5 kg, while normal quality from Rs 120 per 5 kg to Rs 140 per 5 kg, which in the retail market are being sold at Rs 50/40 per kg.
Ginger price reduced from Rs 650 per 5 kg to Rs 500 per 5 kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 120 per kg, garlic was found to be stable at Rs 1,300 per 5 kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 300 per kg and onions price went up from Rs 130 per 5 kg to Rs 150 per 5 kg which in the retail market are being sold at Rs 40 per kg.
Brinjal price went up from Rs 140 per 5 kg to Rs 200 per 5 kg which in the retail market is being available at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 40 per kg and carrot price went up from Rs 300 per 5 kg to Rs 400 per 5 kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 70 per kg, while cucumber price went up from Rs 170 per 5 kg to Rs 300 per kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 40 per kg.
According to vegetable traders, vegetable price increased as a result of outgoing season of Kharif vegetables and delay in arrival of Rabi vegetables, adding that once Rabi vegetables supply start, the market will stabilize. Peas price witnessed a reduction from Rs 700 per 5 kg to Rs 600 per 5 kg which in the retail market are being sold at Rs 150 per kg, Maru kadu price jumped up from Rs 160 per 5 kg to Rs 300 per 5 kg, which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 40 per kg.
Karaila rate increased from Rs 250 per 5 kg to Rs 500 per 5 kg which is being sold at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 65 per kg in the retail market. Good quality tinda price went up from Rs 300 per 5 kg to Rs 600 per 5 kg and normal quality tinda price went up from Rs 200 per 5 kg to Rs 500 per 5 kg. Good quality tinda is being sold at Rs 150 per kg while normal quality at Rs 120 per kg in the retail market. Arvi price increased from Rs 250 per 5 kg to Rs 300 per 5 kg, which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 60 per kg.
According to survey, cauliflower price witnessed a reduction from Rs 330 per 5 kg to Rs 300 per 5 kg, which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 75 per kg and cabbage price was found to be stable at Rs 150 per 5 kg, which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 40 per kg. Capsicum price went up from Rs 370 per 5 kg to Rs 500 per 5 kg, which is being sold at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 90. Okra price went up from Rs 200 per 5 kg to Rs 300 per 5 kg in the wholesales market which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 50 per kg, and tori from Rs 200 per 5 kg to Rs 300 per 5 kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 50 per kg.
The survey observed that the prices of non-perishable essential kitchen items including rice, pulses, wheat flour, spices, ghee/cooking oil and others were found to be stable. Dal mong is being sold at Rs 140 per kg, lobia at 120 per kg, Masoor at Rs 145 per kg, dal channa at Rs 150 per kg and Kabali channa at Rs 170 per kg.
No change was witnessed in the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) which is being available at Rs 105 per kg and Rs 1,160 per domestic cylinder of 11.8 kg. Sugar price remained stable at Rs 3,470 per 50 kg bag in the wholesale market which in the retail market is available at Rs 75 per kg, chicken prices in the wholesale market remained stable at Rs 4,400 per 40 kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 130 per kg, while chicken meat is available at Rs 200 per kg. Eggs with no change are being available at Rs 85 per dozen in the wholesale market, which in the retail market are being sold at Rs 90 per dozen.
Wheat flour price also found to be stable at Rs 740 per 20 kg bag, Lipton Yellow Label tea per kg pack price at Rs 670 per kg, good quality ghee/cooking oil is being sold at Rs 820 per 5 kg and good quality rice per 25 kg bag at Rs 2,500 which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 120 per kg.
According to survey prices of most of the fruits during the week under review witnessed mixed trend as good quality local banana is being sold at Rs 80 per dozen, and normal quality at Rs 50 per dozen, new arrival pomegranates at Rs 100 per kg, guava at Rs 70 per kg and best quality grapes at Rs 180 per kg against Rs 200 per kg while normal quality being available at Rs 120 per kg. Normal quality apples are being available at Rs 70 per kg and best quality at Rs 280 per kg while pear is being available at Rs 120 per kg.
