The Punjab agriculture department has advised the growers of Barani (rain fed) areas to get their wheat seeds, retained by them from last crop, cleaned by the seed graders provided by the department free of cost. Cleaning of thin and broken seeds affected due to pests is essential. It said that the seed graders should also be used for cleaning the weeds and other waste material from the seeds.
A spokesman of the department said on Friday that timely sowing of wheat seed is compulsory and seeds should get cleaned. The spokesman said increase in per acre yield of wheat is the need of the hour to meet the food requirement of ever increasing population of Pakistan.
