Former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja on Thursday said that attitude of doctor can make an appreciable difference to the psychological response of patient who feels the need to be understood and listened to empathically.
"By maximising the role of physician-healer or messiah, there is considerable scope for bridging the gap left by impersonality of medical science, while at the same time, increasing the effectiveness of treatment", he opined this while addressing a certificate distribution ceremony here at the University of Health sciences (UHS) on Thursday.
British Council Lahore's Director Kevin McLaven said that it is important to invest in training of local health professionals and constantly update their skills so that they are capable of meeting the health challenges faced by Pakistan.
UHS Vice Chancellor, Major General Professor Muhammad Aslam (Retd) said that any project that aimed at strengthening the local medical profession had the potential to affect millions. He said that the certificate course in medical teaching (CMT) launched by the UHS under the International Strategic Partnership in Research and Education (INSPIRE) project sponsored by the British Council, could be ground breaking in terms of the positive changes it brings about in the health industry and the delivery of quality service.
The Head of Educational Development Division, University of Liverpool, UK, Professor Ian Willis, said that the programme aimed at making a difference in classroom teaching. UHS's Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT) Director Professor Arif Rashid Khawaja, who is the focal person of the programme, said the university is collaborating with University of Liverpool under the INSPIRE banner to develop an innovative and sustainable project aimed to increase efficiency, enhance research and secure funding for health projects.
