The Lahore High Court on Monday issued notices to the federal government and the interior ministry for November 5 in a petition seeking an inquiry against functionaries involved in leaking the information of an in-camera meeting of National Security Committee. The petitioner, through former federal law minister Babar Awan, stated that the in-camera proceedings were leaked with a conspiracy to scandalise the Pakistan army.
He said the interior secretary was duty bound to act immediately for prosecution of the accused but there was no hope of justice as fingers were being raised at people like advisers to the prime minister and top bureaucrats. Awan urged the court to direct the interior secretary to make the outcome of inquiry public. He also demanded that the names of all the functionaries allegedly involved in the national security breach be put on the Exit Control List (ECL). He further urged the court to direct the Speaker National Assembly to send a reference to the election commission for disqualification of parliamentarians involved in the matter.
