The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday sought comments from the deputy attorney general and advocate general Sindh on a petition of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, calling for adequate security and permission to travel in a vehicle with tinted glasses and having personal guards.
A division bench, headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, took up the petition, seeking directives for the federal and provincial governments and law enforcement agencies to provide round-the-clock security cover in view of reports regarding serious threats to the mover.
Bilawal Zardari through his counsel, Akhtar Hussain Advocate, submitted that being the chairman of PPP he had to travel throughout the country for not only organising the PPP, but also for discharging public duties for the welfare and well-being of the people at large and despite the fact that there are serious life threats to him.
The counsel stated that the law and order situation in the entire country was precarious and it was also evident from various instances of attacks and attempts to the life on different important personalities and some of them have lost their lives. He added that for the purpose of special security measures, the petitioner wanted to travel in a vehicle with tinted glasses along with his personal security guards whenever or wherever he has to travel. Citing secretary of interior and provincial home secretary as the respondents, the petitioner prayed to the court to direct the authorities concerned to allow him to travel in a vehicle with tinted glasses along with his personal security guards with licensed arms while travelling or addressing public meetings throughout the country. The bench issued notices to the federal and provincial law officers to file their respective comments on 15th November 2016.
