The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed the principal secretary to chief minister, governor Punjab and others to produce the audit reports of district governments from 2013 till date before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Punjab Assembly.
A law officer also gave his undertaking to produce these audit reports before the PAC. The petitioner, Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly, Mian Mahmood-ur-Rashid, through his counsel argued that the PAC remained dysfunctional since 2013 and audit reports of district governments are not being produced before the Punjab Assembly as there are massive irregularities of Rs 200 billion which should be recovered through public accounts committee.
He contended that the Auditor General of Pakistan under article 171 of the Constitution has submitted the audit reports of district governments before the governor but these audit reports are not being produced before the public accounts committee. These reports are in possession of the chief minister, he added.
