The government and the opposition parties on Tuesday apparently looked all set to constitute a judicial commission on probing the Panama leaks issue. Talking to media persons outside Supreme Court, the leaders of opposition parties including Siraj-ul-Haq of Jamaat-e-Islami, Hamid Khan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, ruling Pakistan Muslim League leaders Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Khawaja Asif and Talal Chaudhary said that they will accept the decision of the apex court.
JI chief Siraj-ul-Haq said his party supports across the board accountability, saying that his party has full confidence in the apex court that it will give justice. He said that the government should not have blocked the roads which created serious problems for thousands of people travelling to Peshawar, Islamabad and other cities. He also asked the government for the release of the political activists. Freedom of speech and protest should not be compromised, he added. Haq said that the fight against corruption is not between ethnicities or provinces instead it was a fight between the oppressors and oppressed.
JI started anti corruption movement and we will continue our struggle to eradicate corruption at all levels, he said. Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique while expressing the confidence in SC said that the PTI leadership will show maturity and will stop the protest call for return of normalcy to the country. Counsel of PTI Hamid Khan in his remarks said the PTI agrees to the formation of the commission for probing the Panama papers.
Talking to media men, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said the government will fully respect the decision of the SC. Asif said the issue of Panama papers is before the apex court, there is no justification for the street protest. The Defence Minister said after the formation of the commission, the government will also present details of the offshore companies owned by the leaders of PTI and others opponents. He said the apex court during the hearing of Panama Papers petitions gave a loud and clear message that it wants probe into the controversy. Whatever course of action it now takes even if it constitutes the commission, we will accept it.
Asif reminded that the government had prayed the apex court six months ago about the formation of the commission for investigation into matter. Therefore establishment of the commission will be endorsement of the government's point of view. Addressing the media men PML-N Member of National Assembly (MNA) Talal Chaudhry asked PTI chairman Imran Khan to stop declaring everyone a thief in a bid to escape his accountability.
Chaudhry said "Why did he not present the proofs in Supreme Court today if he had any? He is spreading anarchy in the name of protest. PML-N will not let Imran Khan to continue playing such a game," he said. Talal Chaudhry Taunting on PTI chief said that if his dope tests are conducted the use of prohibited medicines he used will be revealed to everybody. Those parties which not accepted Islamabad High Court's (IHC) decision, will approve of Supreme Court's verdict on Panama leaks issue, he asked.
