United Business Group (UBG) has nominated Amir Atta Bajwa as its contestant for the seat of senior vice president in the election of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) for the term 2017. The group also nominated Qazi Attaur Rehman of the Crop Association Khanewal as contender on vice president (VP) slot reserved for the nominee from associations while Wali Muhammad of Loralai Chamber would contest for the post of VP from Balochistan.
Mian Shaukat Masood was nominated as candidate in the election for the position of vice president to represent Islamabad while Masooma Sabtain was nominated to contest for the VP seat for women. Chief Spokesman for the UBG Gulzar Firoz said that a meeting of the UBG core committee was held at the house of President FPCCI Abdul Rauf Alam to consider names of electoral contestants from Islamabad, Punjab and Balochistan for the upcoming election of FPCCI.
After thorough deliberations, chairman of the UBG Iftikhar Ali Malik and patron-in-chief SM Muneer announced the names of the contestants for various seats of the FPCCI. Gulzar Firoz, Iftikhar Ali Malik, S.M Muneer, Senator Ilyas Ahmad Bilour and other business leaders said at the meeting that UBG would win the FPCCI elections again as business community was not in a mood to try those who were tested in the past.
Malik said that only true democracy would prevail in trade politics and people with integrity would be given responsibilities so that that could contribute to image-building of the FPCCI and resolve issues of the business community. Senator Bilour said that the business community of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa and FATA would fully back UBG in the upcoming FPCCI elections.
S M Munir said that one of his group's aims was to revive the lost glory of the apex Chamber of Commerce which was damaged due to mismanagement, corruption and nepotism. Those others who attended the meeting included: FPCCI's presidential contestant Zubair Tufail, SVP FPCCI Khalid Tawab, Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Riazuddin Sheikh, Abdul Sami Khan, Mian M Adrees, Eng. Daroo Khan, Hameed Akhtar Chadda, Dr Noman Butt, Zafar Bakhtawri, Shereen Arshad, Shabnam Zafar, Saeeda Bano, Ahmed Chunay, Khuwaja Zarar, Jumma Khan, Noor Ahmed Khan, Shakil Ahmed Dhengra, Haji Afzal, Mumtaz Shaikh, Malik Sohail and Aftab Barlas.
