Pakistan's leading university - LUMS, in keeping with its vision of promoting engineering and sciences across the nation, has officially inaugurated its very first space observatory. This state-of-the-art facility will feature universe magnifying Celestron CGE Pro Series Telescope at the premises of Gad & Birgit Rausing Library.
Sharing his excitement on this momentous occasion, Vice Chancellor LUMS, Professor Dr S Sohail Naqvi said, "LUMS is known for its innovation and focused research. This observatory is a milestone for us and reinstates our prestige and calibre that sets us apart from other universities."
The newly opened observatory has generated interest of the faculty and students alike and has been termed as an important addition to the university. "It has opened up yet another important branch of studies: Observational Astronomy", he added.
The state-of-the-art space observation facility is a contribution by SPADES, a student-run organisation and an initiative of the LUMS Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE). This facility will enable the LUMS community to look beyond the horizons of earth which will certainly generate interest of students in the lesser known fields of Astronomy, Astrophotography, and Space Sciences.-PR
