Chairman of Nishtar Board of Management of Nishtar Hospital of Medical College Multan and President of MCCI Khawaja Jalal uddin Roomi has hailed the decision of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif to approve a medical university in Multan and other in Rawalpindi.
Talking to media men here on Sunday, he said that these universities will promote medical education and strengthen and develop public health sector, nursing and allied health sciences.
He said the government should allocate special funds for execution of this scheme in the current financial year.
He said that resources, land and hospitals are available in the districts for setting up medical universities and the government should provide all additional resources needed for universities. Roomi said that it was a good news that promotion of medical education and strengthening of health sector is the passion of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and he is ready to provide all out resources for setting up the medical universities.
He hoped that a four-member committee headed by KEMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Faisal Masood would submit its feasibility report and recommendations within a week.
Roomi said that in Sindh there are eight medical universities in public sector whereas in Punjab there are only three medical universities in public sector while population of the province has reached about 120 million.
