Multan best area for investment: report

Multan is the best area for investment and setting of industry, revealed a survey report of the World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC) because of the cheapest labour and the best environment was available here, said Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi, President, Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) while briefing a delegation of participants of 22nd mid-career management course on Sunday.
The delegation of trainee officers was led by Siddique Yousaf, Faculty member of the Civil Service Academy (CSA) along with Dr Harris and Aurangzeb Alamgir faculty members-who visited the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) for an interaction with the local business community.
Addressing the officers, Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi, President, Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that civil service was one of the agents of development in any country and civil officers should fully cooperate with private sector in efforts aimed at economic revival of the country. He said civil officers should play facilitative role in resolving issues of the business community so that private sector could grow up to its real potential. He said public-private partnership was the best approach to take the country forward on the road of sustainable economic development and civil officers should partner with private sector in steering the country out of current challenges.
Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi said that there was a dire need of developing an industrial zone in Multan so that benefits of CPEC could be exploited. He suggested the government should provide opportunities for local investors to take part in CPEC project and at least 40 percent labour must be recruited locally to provide maximum jobs to locals so that poverty, joblessness and deprivations of this zone could be alleviated. Roomi said that Multan region was paying more taxes than Faisalabad and other regions but it was getting meagre share in development. He stressed the need for development of infra-structure, upgrading the existing industry besides setting up of new industry in the area to create maximum jobs.
Siddique Yousaf, Chief Instructor said that the purpose of bringing trainee officers to Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry(MCCI) was to sensitise them about the views and issues of business community so that when trainee officers go back to their parent departments, they could facilitate private sector with better understanding of its key role in economic development and problems being faced by the business community.
He highlighted the role of Civil Services Academy in providing quality trainings to public sector officers and said that since its inception CSA has so far conducted 22 advanced and numerous short management courses. At the end, questions and answers session was held and both sides asked questions and offered good suggestions to streamline matters.
