A petitioner on Monday moved Supreme Court challenging an Islamabad High Court (IHC) verdict through which it had turned down a plea seeking directives for the federal government to elevate Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif to the rank of field marshal in greater national interest.
Sardar Adnan Saleem Khan Mazari Advocate of Rawalpindi had urged the Islamabad High Court to issue directives to the federal government for conferring the title of field marshal to Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif for rendering services to protect national security and safeguarding the National Action Plan amid successful contemplation of Zarb-e-Azb against militancy in the country. Challenging the IHC verdict before the apex court, Mazari made the Prime Minister, Secretary Cabinet Division and Defence Secretary as respondents in the appeal.
